At a recent meet & greet, a fan asked me how many bass drum skins had I gone through?

I didn't know!

But it got me thinking....

I'm currently reading a book, written by a fan, all about the equipment, different set ups and bass drum skins of Queen drummer, Roger Taylor.

So I decided to look through my pics and put a brief description of each bass drum skin.

                            2010
When I joined The Searchers, I was using a Pearl Masters in midnight blue fade with a plain white skin.
After discussions with the band, they told me I could have what ever skin I wanted and if I wanted to put their logo on there, brilliant!
This was my first Searchers skin. It was made by Chris, who does our CDs. The logo is the logo used on the back of our CDs with Johns distinctive 12 string guitar as the A.
Sadly it was made on the 'piss' but was replaced by a better version a few months later.

2011 A new Pearl Masters kit in blue sparkle meant a new skin was needed.
This skin was professionally made by Custom drum skins.
The design was taken from the bands first album, Meet The Searchers and became know as the Superman logo.
Both the bands and my websites were added.

2011 The 60s Gold tour.
I was asked by the agents of the 60s Gold tour to remove all Searchers logos as the other acts didn't want The Searchers on stage while they were.
My midnight fade Pearl masters made a return with the plain white skin.

So another new skin from Custom drum skins. Same Superman design but with DW instead of Pearl at the top.

2014 Carrera Custom kit.
I met Dave Carrera at the Hobble on The Cobbles show at Aylesbury.
Dave had been building custom drums for over 10 years and I used 1 of his snare drums.
After several chats and trips to his factory i made the with to Carrera.
This kit had a 24" bass drum and was one of the first kits Dave built. I saw it in the factory and told him I wanted it!
As Dave was in the process of designing a new logo, I used the skin which came with the kit and attached an Istanbul Mehmet sticker.

2014 Another skin from Custom drum skins.
The new Carrera logo with the new Searchers logo and Istanbul Mehmet logo.
The Searchers logo is the same one we use on stage. A few people had told me, they struggled to see the Superman logo on stage. This design, which uses all the skin, can be seen and read on stage.

2016 After I found a deep scratch on My Carrera custom kit and as Dave had to stop making kits due to bad health in 2015, I decided to take the kit off the road.
I went out and bought a Sakae Trilogy. A new kit with a vintage look.
While it looked the part, if I'm honest, I hated it and after 5 months I sold it.
For the first 2 months I kept a plain white Code skin.

Made by Alyerpal signs, I decided to make it in gold on a black Code skin to blend with the kit.

Frank
As my Liberty kits are replicas of Roger Taylors Queen + Adam Lambert tour kits, when Roger moved away from the standard Queen bass heads to Frank the robot from The News Of The World album, I just had to get a replica and attach it to my studio kit
